Humans and other animals need the right things to stay alive.

All animals need air to stay alive. The shark uses gills to breathe. Gills take in air from the water.

All animals need water to drink and the right food to stay alive.

Food that is good for humans is called healthy food.
Food that is not good for us is called unhealthy food.

Activity

What would you take to the stars?

Sofia, Zara and Arun are going to the stars. What do they need to take with them to stay alive? Draw a picture of the things you would take to the stars to keep you alive.

How am I doing?
Look at a friend’s work. Have they got water and air in their picture? Have they got healthy food in their picture?

It is good to try healthy food to find out if you like the taste. Sam thinks he won’t like kiwi fruit.

Sam’s prediction was not right. When our predictions are wrong, we learn something new. Sam learnt that he likes kiwi fruit.

You will need: some healthy foods to taste.

Try tasting some new healthy foods. Which ones will you like? Record your predictions and the results in a table like this.

When our predictions are wrong, we learn something new. Some people don’t like to say when they are wrong. When you can say when your predictions are wrong it will help you to learn.
